Photos of the Cotswolds gas pipeline
Richard has sent some photos of the installation of the new gas pipeline through the Cotswolds - refer to post of 11th August. These were taken at Winstone. He reports that the geology map gives White Limestone at GR SO968090 (top photo) and Hampen Marly Beds at SO968095 (bottom photo), but passing to Fuller's Earth 100m away from the photo position. A fault is shown 200m away throwing White Limestone up.

I read the interesting comments re Winstone gas pipeline, (on post of 11th August). The speed at which they fill in after is probably the worst aspect, and they were working on Sunday morning, such is the tight schedule. It would take a lot of time to visit and chat up the workers even on 1 or 2 miles' worth of trench. I think having hi-vis jacket and hard hat might help to allow visits. A main reason for visiting is simply to check if the recent BGS surveys have got it right. I did not realise how limestone-like the Hampen Marly beds are.....If the survey is correct.
