A Grand Tour of the Ocean Basins
The Earths Oceans and what lies under them are at the heart of Plate Tectonics. Learning about them can be difficult but what follows may help.
This page has links to a .kml file which opens in Google Earth and a .pdf file which opens in Adobe Reader or equivalent. You will need both to be open at the same time. Ideally you should use two monitors but you can get away with one.
The KML file takes you to various locations starting with the African Rift valley and the PDF file tells you what is going on. There are 66 locations described and 73 pages of explanation, including links to various rather good photos and videos. I haven't had the chance to go through all the lessons but it does seem to be a good introduction with lots of detail.
A note:- You are asked to turn on Google Earth's earthquake and volcano layers. After some time I found them in the Layers (lower left of the screen) under Gallery.
