All Cornwall's mines

All Cornwall's Mines in 3D

This web page introduces a labour of love - a three dimensional representation of all the mine shafts and workings in Cornwall.

A good start

Browse World Geology

This site lets you browse the geology of the world. It looks like a first attempt - there does not seem to be a legend but clicking on a spot gives a broad indication of the geology - e.g Jurassic. Submarine geology is found at some magnifications. I'm sure it will get more useful with future iterations.

Dave Green - The Geology of Norway (and Scandinavia)
When
Mon, 29 January, 19:30 – 21:30
Where
Wynstones School, Stroud Road, Whaddon, Gloucester (map)
Description
Scandinavia forms a large part of the ancient continent of Baltica. Although once extensively covered by Phanerozoic rocks, these have been largely eroded apart from those preserved in downfaulted graben (as in the North Sea and Oslo) and upththrust nappes, pushed onto Baltica during the violent collision with Laurentia in the Caledonian Orogeny at the end of the Silurian. Otherwise, Scandinavia is composed of PreCambrian rocks (mainly igneous and metamorphic) accreted to Baltica during its formation, from 3500 to 900 million years ago. The course aims to introduce you to this long and fascinating history. Monday 8th for 10 weeks (not 12h or 19th Feb) until 26th March. Held at Wynstones School, Stroud Road, Whaddon, Gloucester from 7.30-9.30pm on Mondays . Cost £70

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND MEMBER’S MEETING
Wednesday 31 January 2018

The Geology Section’s Annual General meeting will consider the report on Section activities during 2017 and appoint the officers and committee to serve for 2018.

This involves the election of a President, Secretary, Field Secretary and other committee members. Anyone interested in taking on these positions is asked to contact the Section Secretary who will not be in any way upset if another person wishes to take on the Secretary or Field Secretary roles. Please consider if you might be able to help organize our programme of talks and walks by suggesting Speakers or Leaders.

It will be followed by presentations or short talks by members of the Section. Displays of rocks and fossils by members will be especially welcome as will short talks on any aspect of geology. This will be an occasion for members to socialize and really get to know each other so please do come along.

Photographing Kilauea in 4 Parts

Erez Marom, a professional photographer went to Hawaii to photograph flowing lava. He is not a geologist and he is more concerned with focal lengths and avoiding being baked than with lava viscosities. But he takes some wonderful photos! It can be difficult to tell the scale of many of his photos but they are all well worth looking at.
