I know "subscribe" is the normal term, but it's really the wrong word - it usually implies payment.

It's completely free, so what is meant is, in fact, just "join".

That would depend on your definition of the word "join".

Personally, I think that "subscribe" is a more appropriate term as the reader is simply volunteering to receive future updates. Nothing more than that.

Ah, the joys of semantic nuance.

I have just "suscribed" and it will be useful getting notice of anything new in the future. Certainly there was no attempt to seek any payment. I had a little trepedation that providing my e-mail address would result in my getting numerous unwanted communications, but that does not seem to be the case.
